During Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, MARONCELLI DISTRICT presents exhibitions in galleries, showrooms dedicated to four cornerstones of sport: Harmony, Beauty, Well-being, and Speed.

The Maroncelli 12 gallery presents “Art and Sport. Outsider Speed is Space”, a group show where the feeling of speed becomes a mental space, a projection of energy and vital force. Running across the gallery walls are whimsical works, projections of the artists’ imaginations as they pursue cosmic visions.
The “Aeroplanini” by Tarcisio Merati (Bonate Sopra, 1934 – Bergamo 1995) aim to surpass the speed of sound: small flying knots, elegant forms of curved embraces containing worlds, stars and wheels, flowers and triangles.

Giovanni Galli’s (Florence, 1955) works are veritable pages of a visual diary, in which the artist engages in a dialogue with himself and then transmits his story to the outside world. Some recurring themes include the nuclear bomb and the representation of the human body. In this case, airplanes and airships aim high, fast rockets that convey a sense of freedom and lightness, perhaps, along with the artist’s desire to free himself.

Alessandro Santoro (Faenza, 1969 – Novara 2007) seeks balance in a parallel world, his characters seemingly succumbing to the “provocation of space” and dissolving into cosmic dust. His works raise their eyes to a sky where anything can still happen.

The space-time relationship questions Antonio Di Paola’s (Palermo, 2000) characters, fearsome and evil warriors who shed all threat to create playful and flourishing sarabands , through an explosion of vibrant signs and colours.

Franca Settembrini’s (Florence 1947 – 2003) young women seem to fly away, while the many eyes observing us from Suresh Prandi’s (Bangalore 1998) sheets immerse us in an intense space of colour and texture.
Dan Miller (Castro Valley, California, 1961) works with layers of words and images that gradually abstract into a three-dimensional space.
